The Solution

Cultural Change is the solution

Cultural Change

To effectively tackle the plastic crisis and all its environmental implications, we need to unite as a society and take action. For this we believe in the 4 legs at the table of change. REDUCE, REUSE, REDESIGN and RECYCLE. We are that important last leg. So what does that mean?

The Infinite Timeline

    From Problem to Solution

In January 2020, Paul Riley attended an ideathon hosted by Main Sequence Ventures about a ‘plastic-free future’. This prompted Paul to search for plastic alternatives and recycling technology solutions ready for commercialisation.

    Samsara Eco is Born!

In October 2020, Paul learns about 2 PhD students, Vanessa Vongsouthi and Matt Spence, and the plastic-degrading enzymes they’ve been working on. This prompted Paul, along with Main Sequence Ventures, Australian National University and Woolworths Group to team up and birth Samsara Eco in December 2020.

    Designing Enzymes

Our research founders, Vanessa and Matt, along with a team of scientists continued to design and validate enzymes for degrading various plastics building up our library of enzymes, which are the backbone to Samsara Eco’s EosEco™ technology.

Scaling Up to Create Measurable Impact

Whilst the science team continues to progress, in March 2022, the engineering team began scaling up the technology in preparation for commercialisation. In September 2022, Samsara Eco undergoes third party life cycle analysis, to continuously inform and minimise the environmental impact of the company.

    Working & Partnering

After raising $56 million (AUD) and continued development from the team, Samsara Eco reaches out to brands and other organisations to collaborate with for greater impact. One such partnership was announced in May 2023 with lululemon. The collaboration resulted in the world’s first enzymatically recycled nylon 6,6 garment and commercially available apparel made from infinitely recycled polyester from the EosEco™ technology.

    Closing the Infinite Loop

The advances of the EosEco™ technology is closing the loop and creating a circular economy for plastic in textiles, packaging and other industries. In June 2024, Samsara Eco secured $100 million (AUD) to end plastic waste and continue to close the infinite loop.
